European Council Adopts FIR (Food Information Regulation)

The Food Information Regulation (FIR) will be the most significant change in European Food Labeling in 30 years. The vote by the European Council now clears the way for publication in the Official Journal of the European Union. The Regulation will become law 20-days after publication and be phased in over 3-years.

The text of the July 6 Second Reading in the European Parliament (posted below) will asset practitioners until the OJ final text is released in the near future. We will post the final OJ text when issued as it will be the operative compliance document after official publication.

Our European and Canadian readers should note the spelling "labelling" in "EU English" and "labeling" in American usage as found in FDA documents.
